We’re all busy
Today has been a crazy day, not that it was any different than any other day. Finding time to get everything done in what little time I have outside of work is usually a challenge.
Yes, my wife and I don’t have kids so that makes our lives a bit easier than most 40-somethings, but living in the semi-suburban purgatory of northwest Chicago means a one-hour-plus commute, each way.
It’s my life
Up at 5:45 to do some writing and then get my lunch ready followed by getting myself ready and dressed and out the door by 7:15 to catch the bus and be surrounded by hoodie rats with their giant backpacks taking up all the aisle space when you try to get off the bus to catch the L.
Get to my desk by 8:30 and start plugging away at another day.
Add in a little extra time spent at work until 4:50 and that means longer commute times, not to mention any unforeseen delays with the CTA, such as the shooting at an L stop in the Loop two weeks ago or the seemingly random delay that happened today. That meant getting home tonight at 6:20 rather than 5:45. It’s amazing how 35 minutes seems to be a lot when I had to run errands and pick up some protein powder from the store and a few other items.
Back home by 7:15 and time to heat up some broccoli and cauliflower for dinner to go along with pork chops I thawed out that I grilled up last week.
Then my wife FaceTimed from a work trip to New Orleans while I was finishing up dinner and here it is 8:00 and I’m writing this post. I’d love to be in bed by 9:00 as it seemed everyone on the L was falling asleep tonight, myself included. Guess that’s a good sign I need some extra sleep.
So I guess my point is that I’m glad tonight was a free night from working out so I could be late in getting home and have a ton of errands to do and still not mess up my schedule.
Having a home gym really helps in finding the time to work out.
Even if I did have to work out tonight having a home gym means that I still could rush downstairs and do the “I Ain’t Doing Jack *$*#” workout a la Jim Wendler in 5/3/1. Just hit the big lift of the day and call it a wrap.
Thankfully I didn’t have to do that today and am still on track to work out tomorrow night for the third cycle of Vodka and Pickles.
Now it’s time to just chill out and relax for a bit before bed and look forward to seeing my wife tomorrow night for the first time in a week.
